ProVide Server can run as a system service, usually this is the default, or in application mode. To run ProVide Server in application mode, i.e. when a user is logged on to the computer or server, just click the .exe file and ProVide will run. This means ProVide Server can run directly from a USB-stick on the fly, as ProVide, running in application mode makes no registry entries.
In fact we designed ProVide Server for portability and for as much as possible refrain from windows registry settings. As programmers we often feel frustrated by applications clogging up and writing this and that, to the windows registry. Somehow this always leaves unwanted traces of applications that stick like tar, even after uninstalling. Furthermore many applications are dependent on separate frameworks, like installing .NET in a specific version. If you run ProVide as a system service; yes it will be registered in the windows registry, but we have kept this registration to an absolute minimum.
